YMCA Swim Lesson Levels

 

Swim Starters (Levels A & B)– children ages 6 months to 3 years.
Accompanied by a parent, infants and toddlers learn to be comfortable in the water and develop swim readiness skills through fun and confidence-building experiences, while parents learn about water safety, drowning prevention, and the importance of supervision.
Ages: 6 months - 3 years Class length: 30 minutes

Parent Participation: one parent per child must be in the pool for each lesson

 

Swim Basics ( Levels 1, 2, 3)– children 3 years—Kindergarten.
Develops personal water safety and basic swimming skills in students of all ages. The Swim basics program includes three stages for preschoolers: Stage 1 Water Acclimation, State 2 Water Movement, and Stage 3 Water Stamina.
Ages: 3—5 years

Parent Participation: A parent must be in the pool area for all lessons involving children age 6 years & younger

 

Swim Strokes (Levels 4,5,6)- School age kids—1st grade & Up.
Having mastered the fundamentals, students learn additional water safety skills and build stroke technique, developing skills that prevent chronic disease, increase social-emotional and cognitive well-being, and foster a lifetime of physical activity. Stage 4 Stroke Introduction, Stage 5 Stroke Development, and Stage 6 Stroke Mechanics.
